As of the time of writing, WWE creative is leaning towards keeping the WWE Title on CM Punk for the time being, meaning the plan is for him to defeat John Cena at Monday’s Raw 1,000th supershow and retaining his belt.
PWInsider.com reports that there is a lot of talk in the WWE that Cena will become the first person in the company’s history to cash in their Money in the Bank briefcase and not win the directly from cashing in the contract.
There had been great expectation among fans that a title change is coming soon. It is expected that Cena will at least have the belt coming out of September’s WWE Night of Champions pay-per-view which takes place from his hometown in Boston. Local advertising for that event has Cena “chasing” to reclaim the WWE title, signifying that he won’t be champion going into the match.
The long term plan is believed to be The Rock chasing John Cena for the WWE Title at WrestleMania 29.
