WWE Champion John Cena Teases That He Wants To Turn Heel

Cena says life would be better if he could be a bad guy.

A big talking point amongst wrestling fans over the weekend was John Cena tweeting that he'd like to turn heel. There's a chance that Cena sent this tweet just to be provocative, or maybe it really is a career change that he's pushing for. "Ok interweb, have fun with this one.. #lifewouldbebetterif I turned heel. @twitter feed crash in 3....2....." he tweeted. The tone of the tweet is obviously light-hearted and Cena makes clear he is expecting a reaction. However it was certainly a choice comment to make, one of the few occasions he has actually addressed going heel. Does he really feel life would be better if he became a bad guy? Who knows, but after years of mixed reactions, maybe he really is ready to embrace a darker character. There'd certainly be some compelling creative WWE could do with a Cena heel turn. It would allow for some blockbuster heel vs face dynamics with either Roman Reigns or Daniel Bryan. Maybe it's something WWE have even suggested to him. There could be any number of reasons that led to John sending that specific tweet. Whether he likes it or not, the live WWE crowd are probably going to boo him as a heel anyway in his upcoming Brock Lesnar feud. Fans are jaded by seeing Cena as Champion all the time, Lesnar represents an exciting change of direction, even if he is meant to be the bad guy. Ultimately there seems little chance of Cena going properly heel at any time in the near future. WWE makes too much money off his good guy merchandise and they're reliant on him for charity / media appearances. Cena is the legitimate franchise star, recognised beyond the company, there's no way WWE would want to compromise that. Maybe Cena does want to go heel, maybe the creative would be brilliant, but right now a heel turn just doesn't make sense from a commercial perspective.
