Why WWE Changed Chris Jericho vs Bray Wyatt Finish At Battleground

When Chris Jericho beat Bray Wyatt clean at Battleground on Sunday with the Codebreaker it surprised a lot of people. The announcers were even surprised by it probably because we've become so used to Jericho losing matches on a consistent basis. According to Dave Meltzer of F4Wonline.com, the plan was originally for Wyatt to win and then it was changed on Sunday to have Jericho get the win. The change was apparently made by Vince McMahon, which is no surprise because he has been the man in charge of WWE for well over 30 years now. While no reason has been given for the change at this point, it's probably a case of McMahon wanting to change a finish that was too predictable. It's happened before. Most of the time WWE sticks to their plans and really doesn't deviate from them, but they will do things like this from time to time. The win by Jericho likely won't hurt Wyatt too badly since they'll probably do a rematch at SummerSlam. Jericho didn't come back to beat Wyatt multiple times. He came back to put him over and make him look like a bigger star. This week on Raw there was supposed to be a Highlight Reel segment with Jericho hosting Wyatt, Erick Rowan and Luke Harper. Instead, Wyatt attacked Jericho in the locker room and slammed him head first into a locker. Jericho was later shown bleeding by the ear. Wyatt ended up doing a promo in the ring where he said that he's a guy that starts wars and that you can't kill him. It's interesting that Jericho is involved in this because one of the more famous "change the finish" ideas was done at the 2012 Royal Rumble when Jericho was expected to win, but WWE ended up changing it to Sheamus. Jericho was in the bigger match at WrestleMania 28 since his match against CM Punk for the WWE Title was much more high profile than Sheamus against Daniel Bryan for the World Title (the infamous 18 second match), yet WWE changed it. It didn't really matter because of where they ended up at WrestleMania although Jericho is not a Rumble winner because of it. We can expect to see Jericho vs. Wyatt at SummerSlam. It would be a major surprise if Wyatt didn't get the win in their rematch.
