WWE Changed The Finish To Lars Sullivan's Super ShowDown Match

What was originally supposed to happen in Saudi Arabia?

Lars Sullivan faced the Lucha House Party (Lince Dorado, Gran Metalik and Kalisto) at Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia last Friday (7 June). Given Sullivan's monstrous presentation so far, the general assumption was that 'The Freak' would squash the three Cruiserweights in a dominant showing. This wasn't the case, though.

Instead of ending in Lars' victory, the bout went to a disqualification when all three Lucha House Party members attacked the big man. They beat him down to dead silence in the arena before Sullivan gained a measure of revenge, battering the trio on the ramp, and standing tall as the segment closed.

Per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, this wasn't WWE's original plan. Lars was supposed to go over at first, and instead, the company changed their mind and went with something else.

This is a weird one. The DQ finish benefitted neither the Lucha House Party or Sullivan, who, rather than being protected, looked like a loser. The post-match beatdown rendered the finish redundant as well, so why bother?

A crushing victory may have helped presented Lars as the threat WWE want him to be, though the disinterested crowd would have likely sullied that as well.
