WWE closed the December 18th edition of Monday Night Raw with the blockbuster revelation that January 28th's pay-per-view will feature the first-ever Women's Royal Rumble match.

The legendary battle royal joins Hell In A Cell and Money In The Bank in at long last showcasing the growing and ever-improving women's divisions in ordinarily male-only stipulations.

Casting herself as the bastion of equality as usual, Stephanie McMahon made the announcement following a chaotic conclusion to the third hour's main event pitting Sasha Banks, Bayley and Mickie James against Paige's dominant new trio Absolution.

Surrounded by the entire Monday Night Raw Women's roster, she spoke on the 'This Is Hope' chants received by Banks and Women's Champion Alexa Bliss during their recent history-making clash in Abu Dhabi. The pair contested another first on the tour, with the country having never hosted a women's wrestling match of any kind before that point.

Stephanie didn't confirm if the match would feature 20 or 30 superstars, though should WWE elect to mirror the surprise element to the men's match by calling upon legends of the league for one-night returns.

Rumours have been rampant for months that the company were keen on extending the elimination war to the women's division, especially following the sudden call-ups for Sonya Deville, Mandy Rose, Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan from NXT.
