Vince McMahon has dropped the idea of bringing back former RAW main eventers to wrestle a special one-off match leading to the 1,000th RAW episode in July.
The whole idea began with Vader, who was brought back last week and squashed Heath Slater in a quick match.
The reason for the idea being nixed is that WWE were concerned that Vader got a far bigger pop on last week’s show than anyone on the current WWE roster, including CM Punk and John Cena. WWE officials believe it comes across badly that the fans are so into nostalgia stuff and not the current product.
WWE went in a different direction this past week on RAW by bringing in Roddy Piper for a segment with Wendi Ritcher and Cyndi Lauper however Wrestling Observer Newsletter editor Dave Meltzer has also hinted that McMahon was likely to be unhappy with that too as despite only doing an on-mic segment and not wrestling, he (and also Mick Foley in the opening segment) still got a bigger pop than anyone else on the roster!

No surprise. Best big man of all time hands down, but criminally underused by the WWF/E.
When Vader appeared my hope was exactly that, that they bring someone back each week up until the 1000th Raw.
Unfortunately it was too good to be true…
What is the source of the information? This is a ridiculous story that makes no sense.
If you read it Nick, it’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
What a bad move on wwe’s part. You’d think they would want ratings so why not bring back old guys to surprise fans people want to see, im sure that will bring more ratings than the usual cena crap.
WWE should announce a mini battle royal, past Superstars vs current, then watch the POP’s lol. Current WWE superstars according to my observations cannot cut it only a hand full like Cena Punk Orton can generate noise from the crowd but as per story above, I feel old is gold!!!…
i think you will find vader won the match and not slater, thats just bad writing
Yeah I meant to write he squashed Heath Slater. Thanks for the heads-up, I shall change.
Ahem! Told you this made zero sense…. stop bringing in legends because they get huge pops?? Oh no! lol…
Seriously, consider the story instead of just buying it because the Observer says so
