WWE Ending Second Screen Experience On WWE App

This is WWE's last week offering this service.

WWE have announced that they are no longer going to do the "second screen experience" during live broadcasts of Raw and taped episodes of Smackdown. According to an article on WWE.com, that experience will end this week after Smackdown on May 28, effective immediately. They have been doing them for the past three years exclusively on the WWE App. It has been promoted heavily during broadcasts over the past three years, then they go to a break and the announcers encourage viewers to turn on the WWE App to keep watching. While the WWE App is still around and will still be mentioned heavily by WWE, the experimental bonus way of watching Raw appears to be over. When there were matches going on leading to somebody getting tossed outside the ring, perhaps some live Raw watchers tuned into the WWE App. However, the majority of fans likely sat there watching for three minutes for the match to come back on or they might have changed to another channel. Having to turn on your phone to see a match continue just didn't sound that appealing. There were a few times when WWE had matches end during the break, but that just led to more fans complaining. There were also promos that aired on the WWE App during the TV shows. Sometimes they were done to set up a match that was coming up later in the show. Other times it was just silly stuff to fill time, which often featured midcarders that were barely on television. In other words, if you missed those segments you really weren't missing too much. While there is no specific reason given for why they are discontinuing the second screen experience on the WWE App it's likely because they didn't have enough people watching it. Joey Styles tweeted to a fan that a lot of people tend to look at Twitter, Facebook or Instagram during commercials, which is probably right. Throughout Raw on Monday there were different superstars tweeting about how they were going to miss it likely because for a lot of them it was a chance to do silly stuff and show some personality. Did you ever watch the second screen experience during Raw or Smackdown? If so, will you miss it? Let us know in the comments.
