WWE Could Extend CM Punk's Contract

WWE could extend CM Punk's deal past its current July expiry, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The terms of this extension would be similar to what happened with Rey Mysterio's contract, the 619 star had his deal extended because of a clause in his original deal which allows WWE to roll on the contract if the performer misses substantial time. This time owed means that WWE don't even need a superstar to agree to the extension, they can simply tie them to the contract. This would apply to CM Punk because he has missed the last six months of action and his contract like all WWE contracts has the option written in for the company to extend based on wrestlers missing time. The advantages in WWE extending CM Punk's deal are that it would stop him from working for anyone else this year and it would also be a way to exact some revenge on him for embarrassing the company. The disadvantage is that if they did renew the deal, they'd have to pay him his contracted downside. They currently haven't been paying Punk that downside due to his refusal to work. It will be interesting to see what transpires as WWE and Punk's relationship comes to a turning point. With both sides remaining silent on the impasse, the only way we will probably know what happens is if Punk's profile is removed from wwe.com. Right now his profile is still up on the main roster page, so if WWE do extend the deal, you would expect his image to remain there. Whatever happens, Punk probably isn't too concerned. He is due to marry AJ Lee next month and seems perfectly contented in a life away from wrestling.
