WWE Hall Of Fame 2014: 10 Candidates For Induction

10. Jake 'The Snake' Roberts

There's no doubt that Jake Roberts belongs in the WWE hall of fame, you can only wonder when he'll actually get the call. Roberts battled nearly all of the biggest names in the WWE during his time there, from Randy Savage to Ultimate Warrior to Andre The Giant. He cut brilliant promos that stood out from the standard cartoonish yelling of the era. He was in a class of his own in that regard, and could also deliver in the ring. When most wrestlers were winning matches with sleeper holds and full-nelsons, Roberts was knocking out his opponents out cold with his ruthless creation, the DDT. Roberts was also integral to WWE history just by losing. His loss to Steve Austin at King of the Ring 96 led to the Austin 3:16 promo which set the wrestling world on fire. Had he been able to stay clean, he would have been in the Hall long ago. But of course, Jake has his demons. They've been well documented over the years, after being repeatedly let go by the WWF and WCW, and even being featured doing cocaine in Beyond the Mat. All seemed lost for Roberts, until he moved in with fellow wrestler Diamond Dallas Page. Page leads a very strict and healthy lifestyle, and has also become well known in the fitness world with DDP Yoga, his own twist on the ancient workout and spiritual practice. Perhaps this unlikely pairing is what could finally get The Snake into the Hall. WWE rightfully wouldn't have wanted to take on the Roberts of old, but the new one is drug and alcohol free and looks better physically than he has in years. If Roberts doesn't fall back into his old lifestyle, a Hall of Fame induction (and hopefully the Royal Rumble appearance he's been longing for) could take place this year.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
