Social networking site Twitter has struck once again in the wrestling industry. Just days after JTG and Zack Ryder openly criticised WWE over their poor Wrestlemania payoffs, former World champs Chris Jericho and Kevin Nash have begun their own war of words, this time because of controversial comments made by Big Sexy in an interview with Grantland.com
When asked about the state of the wrestling business Nash answered negatively, slating the current crop of champions. Referring to CM Punk and Daniel Bryan Nash said:
“They are not bigger than life,” he says. “I bet they could both walk through airports and not be noticed unless they have a gimmick shirt on and the belt.”
He went on to describe the moment he feels the wrestling business died and attributed it to the moment a ‘small’ guy won the belt.
“When Benoit and Guerrero hugged [at the end of WrestleMania XX], that was the end of the business,” he says. “Has business been the same since that WrestleMania? Has it come close to the Austin era? Has it come close to the nWo or the Hogan era? You put two f—ing guys that were great workers that were the same height as the f—ing referees, and I’m sorry, man. Are you going to watch a porno movie with a guy with a three-inch d–k? Even if you’re not gay, you will not watch a porno movie with a guy with a three-inch d–k. That’s not the standard in porno films. So you put a 5-foot-7 guy as your world champion.”
Jericho, a man who doesn’t necessarily meet the typical wrestler stereotype, then hit back on his Twitter taking a shot at the man known to some as Big Lazy:
Funny how @realkevinnash says wrestling “died” when Benoit and Guerrero were champs-Yet the worst year for WWE biz was 95 when he was on top
When he read this comment Nash retorted in typically sarcastic fashion suggesting he had played the internet marks (including Y2J) once more:
Once again the puppet master pulls the marks strings .Knew Jericho was a closet mark.First one eliminated on a bullshit sing show…REALLY!!
Not one to be outdone Jericho hit back again, this time taking a pop at Nash’s notorious injury prone streak.
Hope @realkevinnash doesn’t tear his quad tweeting! #typicalbigman#nwothirdwheel
Both men have remained relatively quiet since but it does seem silly for Nash to be so critical of former world champions that weren’t his height and size considering one of his close friends – Shawn Michaels – was under 6 foot tall and around 200lbs at his peak.
Nash has frequently referred to Twitter as his “PS3″, and is not considered a reliable source by anyone looking for the facts. However It is certainly an interesting time to be a wrestling fan if you have Twitter, that’s for sure.
We’ll keep you updated on any further developments.
