WWE Legend Mick Foley Praises Kevin Owens

Does the hardcore icon see a little of himself in the NXT Champion?

Mick Foley may have officially retired but he still has a keen interest in WWE. The former WWE Champion frequently takes to social media sites Twitter and Facebook to voice his opinion on the current product. Like many, Foley has been deeply impressed by Kevin Owens' performances since his arrival on the main roster. In a Facebook post entitled 'FOLEY FEARS OWENS', Mick wrote that:
No matter where I was during the course of my career, I always felt comfortable in knowing that my character was unique and that my matches were going to be different than anyone else€™s on the card. I really think that if Kevin Owens had been around while I was in my peak that he would have forced me to become a better wrestler €“ to increase my limited offensive arsenal, and to step up the cardio to keep up with his faster pace. I appreciate that so many people miss me on their TV sets each week, but I€™m not really gone. Kevin Owens is a faster, stronger, more aggressive version of me who you can see each week on WWE Raw and WWE SmackDown. So does Foley fear Owens? In a way. I€™m afraid that when wrestling€™s history book is written and the topic of top wrestlers with unorthodox body types is discussed, that my name will no longer be first on the list! How do you think a match between Cactus Jack in his early 90€™s prime or late 90€™s Mankind would have turned out? Who will you be pulling for in Owens/Cena 3 €“ the rubber match?
That's a hell of an endorsement from Foley, whose opinion still carries considerable weight. The former Cactus Jack has been a longtime supporter of independent talent and even urged WWE to hire CM Punk and Samoa Joe back in 2004. That he's willing to admit that Owens would have forced him to raise his own game is a nice compliment. As for an Owens versus Foley angle/match? That's not going to happen. Foley is so broken-down from years of reckless bumps that he would never pass a WWE physical. The 50-year-old has wrestled his last WWE match but, still, Owens versus an in-his-prime Foley is a mouth-watering concept for many fans.
