WWE Lift Ban On Use Of "Belts"?

When 'The Man' comes around (and changes company policy)...

Becky Lynch has been changing a lot about WWE since morphing into 'The Man' last summer, and now the reigning Raw and SmackDown Women's Champion is changing more.

Dave Meltzer reported on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE has apparently lifted the previously ironclad ban on talent, announcers and other staff using the term "belts" on screen. This, not-so-coincidentally, comes when the company are selling t-shirts via their official website branded with "Becky 2 Belts".

Meltzer wondered on the radio show whether or not that had anything to do with WWE's terminology shift, although he did also acknowledge that WWE Shop's advertising has included the words "belt" and "belts" again since 2014.

WWE had imposed a ban on the term back in 2008. It, along with other long-established wrestle-words like "strap", "feud" and "house show" was put on the no-no list, and it hasn't really been said (at least not intentionally) for around a decade by the commentators or performers themselves.

There you go then. Becky continues to break down walls and change WWE for the better. Banning simple terminology was a bit excessive anyway.
