WWE Main Event Results - July 23, 2014

Jack Swagger takes on Rusev again and Kofi Kingston teams up with Big E in tag team action.

The WWE Main Event show is exclusively shown on WWE Network every Tuesday at 8pmET. If you miss the show live it's easy to access in the WWE Network's library by clicking on Shows, then In Ring and you'll find it right there. We plan on writing about it weekly here on WhatCulture in a one page post with a recap of the matches, key segments and thoughts on the characters involved as well. While it's not a show with major segments or "can't miss" moments that Raw has, we feel it's worthwhile so we're going to cover it. At the start of the show they advertised Rusev vs. Jack Swagger. On Raw they said it was going to be Rusev against Sheamus. It just shows how quick they are to change their mind. Seth Rollins defeated Fandango It was a short match that went about three minutes with Rollins winning clean with the Curb Stomp. Matching up a heel against another heel is difficult because of the lack of crowd reactions and that was shown here. No sign of Layla or Summer Rae to taunt Fandango because he was against a heel. Also no sign of Dean Ambrose to attack Rollins. It was just a match to put over Rollins. Ryback defeated Jey Uso They got about five minute with Ryback winning clean after a distraction from his partner Curtis Axel. This is typical of WWE booking where a tag team wrestler loses in a singles match to set up a future tag match, likely for the tag titles. It could mean Usos vs. Rybaxel at SummerSlam although maybe they will do it on Raw. The awkward team of Titus O'Neil & Heath Slater did a promo together. O'Neil told him to follow his lead while Slater said he didn't mean that and they would go on to become the greatest team ever. Big E & Kofi Kingston defeated Heath Slater & Titus O'Neil The Big E/Kingston team was led to the ring by Xavier Woods, who was in the same white suit he was wearing on Raw. It looks like this trio will be together going forward. They didn't really work as heels. Woods just motivated from ringside. Big E placed O'Neil on his chest, Kingston went to the top and did a double foot stomp on the chest of O'Neil. They did the same move to Slater, then Big E covered both of them for the dominant win in three minutes. The rumors are that Mark Henry will join the group possibly on Monday's Raw. There was a backstage interview with Zeb Colter calling Lana & Rusev "commies" that were slamming vodka. He told them not to under-estimate a motivated Real American like Swagger. To follow up on the Stephanie McMahon arrest story, they said she was released from jail early Tuesday morning. There's a WWE.com story about it. Prior to the main event, Lana did a promo with Rusev where she noted the white flag that was on the Brooklyn Bridge, which was apparently a hoax and they were taken down. Anyway, she didn't say anything that was that controversial although she did do the usual thing of putting over Vladimir Putin as the most respected leader in the world. Jack Swagger defeated Rusev by Disqualification It was the first time Rusev lost a singles match since he debuted after WrestleMania and it was wasted on Main Event. Rusev did a good job of selling the ankle injury that he was dealing with in the match on Sunday at Battleground. Swagger was really aggressive and looked like he was closing in on a win when Rusev hit him in the stomach with the Russian flag to force the disqualification. The show ended with Swagger standing tall with the American flag in the ring as it appears as though the feud is going to continue. Losing via DQ is not as significant as getting pinned or submitting, so it shouldn't be seen as a big deal. Plus, WWE hasn't really put over the idea that Rusev is undefeated. They say it all the time with Bo Dallas, but not with Rusev. There were rumors that Swagger vs. Rusev was ending after Battleground, but they'll probably have another match at some point. Whether that's at Raw or SummerSlam, we will see it again soon. If Rusev moves on from feuding with Swagger then the US Champion Sheamus and a returning Big Show are candidates for his next feud. That's all for this week's Main Event recap. Check it out WWE Network.
