WWE News: Update On Sami Zayn's Injury Status

How close is the former NXT Champion to making a comeback?

Sami Zayn has not wrestled (besides a one-sided loss to Kevin Owens at NXT Takeover: Unstoppable) since he injured his shoulder while answering John Cena's United States Championship open challenge on the May 4th edition of Raw. Zayn, who looked set to become a main roster fixture following an impressive showing in the Cena match, actually sustain the injury during his entrance while attempting to fire up the crowd. He had been having shoulder issues for sometime beforehand, however. Now PWInsider.com are reporting that Zayn has resumed light training and is back working out at the WWE Performance Centre in Orlando. Those anticipating an in-ring return in the coming weeks should not get their hopes up, though, as the site also states that he has yet to step back into a ring to train for an actual match, suggesting that a comeback isn't likely to happen any time soon. These are tough times for Zayn, having come so close to reaching the main roster and joining his fellow NXT stalwarts Neville and Owens. Instead, he's had to sit on the sidelines for six months while they go from strength to strength. Of course, WWE could really use Zayn's services, too, with the roster depleted due to injuries to the likes of Seth Rollins and top babyface John Cena taking some much-needed time off. Let's hope that Zayn's recovery continues to go smoothly and that he'll be in WWE (or NXT) rings early next year. His presence has certainly been missed lately.
