WWE Plans For The Shield And Evolution At Payback

This past week of WWE TV saw The Shield defeat Evolution at Extreme Rules and then the next night on Raw, Evolution returned the favor with a beatdown of The Shield to end the night. It was their way of saying that the rivalry isn't over. A new report from PWInsider has confirmed the plans that WWE is building to another showdown between The Shield and Evolution at the June 1 Payback event in Chicago. What isn't known at this time is what kind of match will they have. WWE could opt for doing another 3 on 3 tag team match with a possible stipulation thrown in like a Chicago Street Fight. If they did another regular match again it would feel too repetitive. We know WWE likes repeating themselves a lot, but if they're going to build up this rivalry for another month then it would be smart to put some kind of stipulation on the match. The other option that has been discussed internally is to have three separate one on one matches between Shield and Evolution members. While we don't know what those pairings would be, it wouldn't be a surprise if Roman Reigns vs. Triple H was the last match after the earlier two matches would be split. While three singles matches are certainly appealing in their own way, it would ruin the possibility of a Triple H vs. Reigns match as SummerSlam that has been rumored for months now. It wouldn't feel as fresh if they did it at Payback. This week on Smackdown, the main event on the show is Batista taking on Seth Rollins. If they went with the 3 on 3 match they would be doing a rematch from Extreme Rules. The two other rumored top matches at Payback are Daniel Bryan vs. Kane again (in a Buried Alive match) and John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt with a stipulation likely to be determined. If that happens then WWE would be promoting the same three matches at Payback that they did at the top of Extreme Rules. Rematches are okay, but three of them as the top matches? It seems like a bit much. Since they have three more weeks of television before Payback there's plenty of time to decide on what it might be for these two feuding groups. The best choice seems to be a 3 on 3 Street Fight. It would be a wild brawl in front of a Chicago crowd that is arguably the best in the world.
