First used in 1994, "The New Generation" was a branding strategy created by WWE to differentiate itself from its past that was dominated by the likes of Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage, who were defecting to WCW. Historically speaking, it's been used to describe the period roughly between 1993 and 1997 when WWE went through various transformations after Hulkamania before finally placing Stone Cold Steve Austin at the top of the company and embracing Attitude.

The NewGen era is not looked fondly upon by most, if looked on at all. The time period is associated with the significant downturn in the wrestling business at the time, as well as apparent creative desperation and degradation on WWE's part. From hokey job-based gimmicks to Kevin Nash holding the WWE Championship for a year to Mabel winning King of the Ring, there were a lot of growing pains for the company before they finally got their act together.

However, like all misunderstood parts of wrestling, the NewGen era has a big cult appeal, and thanks to content like The New Generation Project podcast, it's gaining new fans all the time.

So, if you're one of those people who grew up with the New Generation, or have recently learned to appreciate it, test your knowledge here!
