With the 1000th episode of Monday Night RAW fast approaching, we take a look at some of the most memorable moments in the show’s history with our A-Z of RAW Moments.
A is for Austin Vs McMahon
WWE really believed it had hit the nail on the head when it realised everyone in America (and the world) would love to beat the crap out of their own boss. How they’d missed this idea for so many years is beyond us but man did they take the ball and run with it – and run, and run, and run some more. As the popularity of anti-hero Stone Cold Steve Austin reached new heights, the decision was made to have him drop his boss – Vince McMahon – with a Stone Cold Stunner after the CEO of WWE tried his best to give Austin some time off to “heal from injuries”.
Although McMahon should really have been the victim here, he quickly became the biggest heel in the company as week after week he tried to screw over his biggest cash cow. Sure it made no sense to do this in real life, and excuse after excuse was given why VKM didn’t just fire the Rattlesnake, but it was easily the biggest storyline in the history of WWE RAW and is as memorable today as it was all those years ago. Several attempts have been made to recreate this with such stars as Bobby Lashley and CM Punk but never was it as massive as when Vince and Steve went to war.
