WWE RAW 1/20/2014 Review: 5 Things We Learned

wwe-raw-logo With less than a week left until the 2014 Royal Rumble PPV, the WWE had to really step up its game this week in order to get the card ready for the big event. It's hard to believe that such a long standing company is continuing to have issues time and again in recent months with putting PPV cards together in advance. It seems that we are always throwing most match choices up against a wall in hopes that something will stick before the show goes live. That said, it is the week of the 2014 Royal Rumble. All signs point towards a decent PPV, but just not the blockbuster event we are all hoping for. I'm hoping they prove us wrong, but the WWE track record on PPV's recently has shown us otherwise. Here are 5 things we learned this week as we head towards Sundays big event:

5. Batista Returns...And Wants WWE Gold

Advertised for weeks now, Dave Bautista finally returned to the WWE on RAW this week, to a fairly great return. The crowd was hot for his appearance, and he immediately put Randy Orton on notice: The Animal wants the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Overall, though, the opening segment and big return this week felt a little flat. While it was great to have Batista return, it just didn't feel like the huge moment that it had the potential to be. Maybe it's because he's telling us the same thing The Rock said last year, nearly EXACLY the same thing. I understand he's not The Rock, but when Rock returned he blew the roof off the building...now that was a return! While I'm excited to see Batista back in the WWE ring, his entire return "event" just doesn't feel that special.
