WWE RAW 20th Anniversary: 10 Reasons It Sucked

8. The Show's Commentary Team

Weekly we get Michael Cole and The King providing commentary on the RAW program, and they are fine. But with the 20th anniversary I was sure we would get a full 3 hours of Jim Ross joining the fold. Instead we got JBL, which is a welcome addition to any commentary cast: he's funny, witty, somewhat insightful, and he brings some previous broadcast commentary history to the announce table. With that said, RAW, in every essence of it's being, is what it is, and most importantly, was what it was, with Jim Ross on commentary. He was the bloodline of the show for over a full decade, causing us to care about and believe in the matches, their participants, and the outcomes of the show's events, as well as hooking us with what aftermaths might lie ahead. He immediately elevates any scenario that is in the ring, regardless of the talent involved. Having him for only one match on the anniversary program was another wasted opportunity, and putting the commentators in their black tie event duds does not alone make the night feel special.

7. The Divas Division

A shell of its former self, the Diva's Division went through a renaissance with the RAW program over the past two decades. And the 20th anniversary show was a prime opportunity to remind us all of that fact. Instead we were treated to Eve dumping the Diva's Championship to Kaitlyn on her way out of the company; and Kaitlyn is someone I hardly know, much less care about. Eve was the only current WWE Diva with any type of character development, and instead of bringing in any number of Diva legends to help launch a new era of the division on what was supposed to be a historic night, we were given a squash match whose outcome was known early on yesterday, as Eve took to Twitter to announce she was leaving the company prior to the show going on-air. This part of RAW and the WWE product has suffered for some time now, and the anniversary show's performance was no exception.
