WWE RAW Review 8/19/2013: 5 Things We Learned

5. Randy Orton Is Crowned

At the close of last night's RAW show, Randy Orton made his way to the ring and was officially coronated as the new WWE Champion for an apparently new McMahon-Helmsley heel run. And this is perfect timing. With John Cena set to leave for up to 6 months to heal a nasty elbow injury and other various ailments, Randy Orton is the right choice despite being a new heel champion. And make no mistake about it: Orton plays this role very well. But for the WWE, this does two things: It allows more time for Daniel Bryan to build his case as the company's top babyface (though you have to wonder if he could be any more "over"!), and it sets the stage for not only a return of the McMahon family heel faction, led by Triple H, but even more importantly for Orton: to turn on the faction at some point and go over huge as a face.
