NXT's Sawyer Fulton has announced via Twitter his departure from WWE.

The 27-year-old, perhaps best known for his turn in Sanity over the last 12 months, follows the likes of Emma, Darren Young, and Summer Rae in departing the company this week.

Expressing gratitude to WWE for giving him an opportunity in the ring, Fulton wrote excitedly about the chance to pursue new openings "in front of new crowds".

"I want to be a great professional wrestler," Fulton wrote in a lengthy statement. "That goal will never change, only the path that takes me there."

The Ohio-native revealed that his NXT trainers predicted that he would make a return to WWE some day down the road.

After five years on the company's books, however, it appears officials have decided that he does not have a role in their immediate future.

Despite the setback, Fulton said that he is "not ashamed" of his release, and looks back at his time with the world's number one wrestling promotion with pride.

An immensely gifted athlete and former amateur wrestler, you imagine this probably isn't the last we will see of him either.
