WWE Report - Triple H's Feelings Regarding CM Punk's Absence

The story of CM Punk staying at home continues to be a hot topic in WWE circles. It's no surprise that it has garnered so much attention because WWE spent years pushing him as a top guy (a push that he deserved), yet he chose to go home when he didn't like the plans following the Royal Rumble. A new report from PWInsider suggests that there's a lot of talk backstage about Triple H likely being offended that Punk didn't want to work with him at WrestleMania like they had originally planned. It's believed that WWE officials, including Triple H, feel that working with Hunter is a privilege and a big deal. Apparently Punk didn't agree with that. Prior to CM Punk leaving WWE, he was doing promos against Triple H to which Hunter didn't reply. Instead they used Kane to make life difficult for Punk (Kane eliminated him illegally in the Royal Rumble match) as a way to further the storyline. They moved Daniel Bryan into the storyline, which was the right move after Punk left. Most likely, the Hunter/Punk story would have evolved in a way similar to the Hunter/Bryan angle although not exactly the same way. Punk's absence also might have played a factor in the change to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match as well. From Triple H's standpoint, it's no surprise that he would be offended by it. While Punk likely doesn't have anything against Hunter personally (they have worked together before), it's the idea of working another WrestleMania match against a part time performer that may have upset Punk. He worked with Undertaker last year. This year it would have been Triple H. Big names? Sure, but they're similar in that they don't work very often anymore. There's also been talk backstage that Vince McMahon was going to figure things out and fix the Punk situation, but now those feelings have changed. A lot of people are very negative when Punk's name is brought up, which is certainly understandable. They invested a lot in Punk and he decided to go home. From WWE's point of view, they should have some anger about it. It says a lot that Vince McMahon hasn't been able to talk Punk into coming back, assuming they've even talked. Punk always spoke about having a good relationship with McMahon. Perhaps that has changed. With WrestleMania two weeks away and Punk's WWE contract set to expire in July, it's a strong possibility that we have really seen the last of CM Punk. Then again, as they say in WWE, anything can happen.
