WWE Set To Copy UFC's Success With Australian PPV Special?

Vince McMahon could be heading down under.

WWE could be set to host a pay per view Network special in Australia, Dave Meltzer reports in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. "Don't think this is a coincidence" Meltzer stated, after WWE sent out a questionnaire to Australian fans just two days after UFC held UFC 193 in Melbourne. The WWE questionnaire was gauging interest for a major live event and fan axxess. UFC found great success in the Australian market, with the Ronda Rousey versus Holly Holm fight drawing an attendance of 56,214, with a live gate of $6.76 million U.S dollars. Pay per view buys are expected to be over one million. If WWE did go to Australia, they could hold the show at noon Monday on Australian time, which would be the traditional Sunday 8 p.m slot for specials in the US. Clearly Vince McMahon has looked to Dana White on this one and copied the UFC President's move down under. The Australian consumers demonstrated a willingness to spend big money at UFC 193, and WWE's marketing questionnaire was clearly designed to see if that could be replicated with the WWE. In all likelihood, the answer is, yes it can. WWE has a big fanbase in Australia, many of whom spend big money to travel to WrestleMania each year. A special down under would hold great appeal, just as it did when WWE did the Global Warning event in 2002.
