WWE SmackDown: 10 Things You Might Have Missed

John Cena nearly wound up with a broken freakin' neck...

This week's SmackDown delivered 3 solid matches and a healthy portion of storyline development elsewhere. If SummerSlam offers up the same level of quality, then we won't be complaining. Besides, the predictable 'Us vs. Them' story of John Cena vs. Jinder Mahal isn't happening, and that should make everyone happy.

Kudos to Cena for doing the right thing and losing cleanly to Shinsuke Nakamura in SmackDown's main event. This was a real make or break moment for Shinsuke, and by far his biggest match on the main roster yet, so it had to go smoothly. Better yet, SummerSlam's WWE Title match now avoids the tired cliche of using xenophobia to sell it.

Even if Cena had been booked to win on Tuesday night though, there's a chance he wouldn't have made it to SummerSlam anyway after one nasty bump threatened to put him on the shelf. The announcers weren't the only ones worried either, because Nakamura slyly checked to see if Cena was alright.

That wasn't the only thing you might've missed on SmackDown...

10. Carmella Could Cash In Next Week

Right before the Shinsuke Nakamura vs. John Cena main event, WWE ran a graphic for Naomi vs. Carmella on next week's show. At first glance, this is nothing more than a tune-up match for Naomi before defending her SmackDown Women's Title against Natalya at SummerSlam, but what if WWE write a Carmella cash in?

The match announcement was a 'blink and you'll miss it' kind of moment and was only shown on screen for a second or so. Hidden just beneath the throwaway style of the match though is the fact that Carmella could realistically be about to become part of the title mix at SummerSlam. In fact, she could even do so as the new champion.

What if Natalya interferes in the match, attacks Naomi and leaves the door open for Miss. Money In The Bank to take advantage? WWE choosing to make the SummerSlam match a Triple Threat isn't far-fetched, and it'd shake things up in what has become a fairly stale division.
