WWE SmackDown: 10 Things You Might Have Missed (July 25)

Are WWE subtly building towards KO vs. Shane McMahon?

Chris Jericho Return

It was nice of Chris Jericho to stop by as a SmackDown surprise and help further the feud between AJ Styles and Kevin Owens. Y2J even found the time to make an old wrestler soundbite ring true: 'Always bring your gear'. Young stars of the future, pay attention.

This week's SmackDown pretty much ignored Battleground in favour of building towards SummerSlam; key parts of the pay-per-view main event from Sunday like Randy Orton and The Great Khali were nowhere to be found. Instead, those forward-thinking writers focused on establishing Jinder Mahal's next challenger for the WWE Title.

Next week, we're getting John Cena vs. Shinsuke Nakamura in a #1 contender's match. The winner earns the right to meet Jinder on August 20. That announcement was talked up by the announcers and had a shiny new graphic, but SmackDown did feature a ton of other moments WWE didn't make a lot of noise about. You'd have to be paying close attention to spot them.

No, 'Thank God The Great Khali Didn't Wrestle' isn't one of them...

10. A Hint That Kurt Angle Isn't WWE's Only New Father

JBL SmackDown Fan Sign
WWE

Whomever the fan is that brought that 'JBL You Are My Father' sign to SmackDown, please stand up and take a bow. Wouldn't that be an interesting storyline, one the blue brand could use to combat what's happening between Kurt Angle and Jason Jordan over on Monday nights.

The sign was only visible for a few seconds at the start of the broadcast, but it's forever immortalised now via WhatCulture. If only Tom Phillips and Byron Saxton had acknowledged the message. They could've seriously teased JBL throughout SmackDown, but they chose to ignore it. That's probably for the best.

In all seriousness, outing JBL as Chad Gable's daddy (whilst funny) would be a complete disaster. Please don't be tempted, WWE creative. Sometimes, the fans aren't always right. This is one such occasion when WWE need to ignore a member of their audience.
