In news that shouldn't surprise anyone keeping up to date with the NXT 2.0 product, WWE has identified Nikkita Lyons as a potential future NXT Women's Champion.

Dave Meltzer reported as much on Wrestling Observer Radio. It was stated, however, that while there has been talk of Lyons becoming Women's Champion on Tuesday nights, this wouldn't be until "a long time" from now.

Lyons is currently one of the strongest pushed wrestlers in NXT 2.0's women's division. Debuting on the brand in February, having made her bow on the now-defunct 205 Live two months prior, the 22-year-old was almost immediately placed into a feud with fellow rookie Lash Legend. Nikkita stood as a big favourite heading into the 2022 Women's Breakout Tournament until injury put her out of contention in May, though whether or not WWE had actually booked her to win prior to this isn't clear.

NXT 2.0's 28 June episode hosted Lyons' return match, with the would-be champion defeating actual title-holder Mandy Rose via disqualification. The former WOW star is yet to be pinned or submitted on television.

Rose is due to defend the NXT Women's Championship against Roxanne Perez on tonight's show.
