WWE SummerSlam 2015 Venue Is Former WrestleMania Stadium?

SummerSlam returns to the East Coast, and possibly aims to fill a large stadium.

SummerSlam once again took over the Staples Center on August 17th and featured a shocking main event bout which saw Brock Lesnar decimate John Cena. This year€™s SummerSlam pay-per-view was the 27th annual edition of the so-called €œbiggest event of the summer€. Furthermore, it was the sixth consecutive SummerSlam to emanate from Los Angeles, CA€™s Staple Center. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFLOlIh0Wb4 However, as announced via a video package during the PPV, that will all change next year. 2015 will see SummerSlam return to the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area for the first time in eight years. The 2007 edition of the show was the last held in the area at the then-Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Now known as the IZOD Center, it seems to be a front-runner to hold arguably WWE€™s second-largest event of the year. So, where exactly will SummerSlam take place? Nothing has been officially stated by WWE yet, except for the NY/NJ announcement. That leaves a wealth of potential arenas to host the summer spectacular. As previously noted, the IZOD Center is a definite contender, as is the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Interestingly, Madison Square Garden is not being considered, despite the WWE€™s longtime love affair with the famed NYC arena. The reason being given is MSG€™s reported high price for running a major show there. Also of note is the speculation that WWE may be interested in holding the 2015 edition of SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium, just next door to the IZOD Center. MetLife was the home for WrestleMania XXIX, bringing in a reported attendance of just over 80,000 fans. With WrestleMania 31 taking place in San Francisco, WWE€™s decision to move SummerSlam back to the East Coast is undoubtedly a smart one. If the company does go through with holding the event at MetLife Stadium, it will be interesting to see if they can draw a crowd similar to WrestleMania XXIX. If they do, then that would cement SummerSlam as the number two show of the year in the eyes of WWE and fans. Which arena will host the 2015 edition of SummerSlam? Let us know your thoughts on the event€™s return to the East Coast in the comments below.
