WWE Survivor Series 1998: 5 Awesome Things And 5 That Sucked

The Deadly Game!

The 1998 edition of WWE Survivor Series took place on November 15, 1998 in St. Louis, Missouri. It was a historic event because the WWE Title was vacated at the time due to the ongoing rivalry between WWE's Chairman Vince McMahon and the top babyface wrestle at the time, Steve Austin. Due to the WWE Title being vacated, the show was nicknamed "Deadly Games" and it was announced that there would be a one night tournament featuring wrestlers that would compete to see who would be the next WWE Champion. Normally it would have been 16 wrestlers, but McMahon gave a bye to The Undertaker and Kane, who ended up meeting in the quarterfinals. Since WWE's next PPV offering is Survivor Series, it's a good time to look back at one of their most historic November PPV events ever from the beloved Attitude Era in 1998. Here's the full lineup from the PPV portion of the show that featured 14 matches. Most PPVs have 7 or 8 matches. This one had 14 in three hours. That's not something we may ever see again. 1. First Round: Mankind d. Duane Gill 2. First Round: Al Snow d. Jeff Jarrett 3. First Round: Steve Austin d. Big Boss Man by DQ 4. First Round: X-Pac and Steven (not yet William) Regal wrestled to a double count out 5. First Round: Ken Shamrock d. Goldust 6. First Round: The Rock d. Big Boss Man 7. Quarterfinals: Undertaker d. Kane 8. Quarterfinals: Mankind d. Al Snow 9. Quarterfinals: The Rock d. Ken Shamrock 10. Women's Title: Sable d. Jacqueline 11. Semifinals: Mankind d. Steve Austin 12. Semifinals: The Rock d. Undertaker by DQ 13. Tag Team Titles: New Age Outlaws d. D-Lo Brown & Mark Henry and The Headbangers 14. Finals: The Rock d. Mankind to win the WWE Title We begin with the five awesome things and then ranking the five things that sucked.
