WWE Tag Champion Evan Bourne Suspended For 30 Days

Suspension effective immediately for a first violation of the WWE's Talent Wellness Program.

Current WWE Tag Team Champion Evan Bourne has been suspended for 30 days effective immediately for a first violation of the WWE's Talent Wellness Program. He was called to a meeting with WWE officials on Monday night at the RAW SuperShow in Atlanta, Georgia after failing a Substance Abuse and Drug Testing Policy violation which corporate.wee.com states "prohibits the use of drugs by talent for other than a legitimate medical purpose pursuant to a valid prescription from a licensed and treating physician." Although it's unknown whether it's related to this case, there's a thought that the flurry of recent WWE suspensions of the Talent Wellness Program is because of a cracking down on synthetic cannabis which was only added to the list of banned substances in June. Darren Young and Heath Slater were also suspended in the last month. What was particularly surprising was that Bourne and his partner Kofi Kingston competed on Raw and successfully defended their Tag Titles against Cody Rhodes and Wade Barrett, instead of dropping them. Though I guess it wouldn't made much sense for Rhodes and Barrett to win the titles at this stage. Air Boom (Kingston & Bourne) didn't appear at the SmackDown tapings on Tuesday so they are still officially Tag Champions despite the suspension being announced. With such a week division, it's not obvious what direction they will go in with this. If I were booker, I would make Air Boom dropping the titles to The Miz & R-Truth which adds the tag titles on the line against The Rock and John Cena at the Survivor Series PPV which although the match doesn't need it, it doesn't hurt the tag titles or the match itself either. I guess they could give it to Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger (whose tensions a few weeks back aren't present no more) but those guys don't really need it and I would rather they were promoted individually. Of course they could always keep the title on Kingston and Bourne and may go with the angle that Bourne is injured so Kingston has a few matches alone for a few weeks or just keeps Bourne off TV and don't mention anything! Whatever happens, there seems to be few positives in the long term future of the Tag Titles.
