WWE Title Match Announced For Extreme Rules

Rollins vs. Orton for the WWE Title is official.

The WWE Title match for Extreme Rules was set following the main event of this week's edition of Raw. When Randy Orton defeated Ryback and Roman Reigns in a triple threat match he earned the opportunity to challenge WWE Champion Seth Rollins for the title in Chicago on April 26. Orton's win was no surprise. The announcement was expected to take place since Orton defeated Rollins in a singles match at WrestleMania, just hours before Rollins won the WWE Title in the main event of WrestleMania. That's typical wrestling booking where a guy beats a champion in a match before the champion wins the title because that makes the champion look vulnerable and makes it look like the challenger could beat the champion for the title. It would be a shock if Orton beats Rollins. The expectation is that Rollins will be WWE Champion all the way until SummerSlam when he faces a returning Brock Lesnar. As we know in WWE, plans can always change. John Cena will defend the US Title against Rusev. That's a rematch from WrestleMania, which is typical of how WWE books Extreme Rules. Rusev wasn't even on Raw to further the feud with Cena. Instead, Cena beat Stardust in a US Title match to put over the story that Cena's a fighting champion as a way to add credibility to the title. Daniel Bryan is set to defend the Intercontinental Title against Bad News Barrett. Since Barrett is the former IC Champion he gets a rematch. At least it's fresh because they didn't have a singles match at WrestleMania although they have wrestled many times. Those are the only three matches that are official after this week's Raw. It's likely that Sheamus will wrestle Dolph Ziggler on the show and Nikki Bella will defend the Divas Title, probably against Naomi. The Tag Title feud is looking like it will be Cesaro and Tyson Kidd defending the titles against new challengers Kalisto and Sin Cara aka The Lucha Dragons. Roman Reigns will need a match as well. Hopefully it's not Big Show again. There have been no stipulations announced for the three matches even though Extreme Rules usually means matches on the show will have stipulations. We will have more updates on the rest of the Extreme Rules lineup in the coming days and weeks.
