WWE To Renew Rey Mysterio's Deal For Another Year?

Could WWE renew Mysterio's deal again to prevent him from joining AAA?

Alberto Del Rio is not the only Mexican wrestling star to make waves in the wrestling world of late. While Del Rio -- now known as Alberto El Patron -- officially debuted with AAA during their annual Triplemania event, Mysterio made an appearance on the August 17th pay-per-view as well. At the end of the program, Rey appeared via pre-recorded video to greet the fans inside Mexico City€™s Arena Ciudad and to tell viewers that he would soon be coming home to the promotion. Unfortunately for Mysterio, he is still under contract with WWE. His current deal with the company was set to expire sometime during the summer, and Rey was under the impression that he would be done with the promotion. He reportedly spoke with Triple H and was told that WWE did not wish to renew the contract -- the conversation supposedly ended with a handshake between the two. At some point after that discussion, however, it was decided that WWE would enact a clause in Mysterio€™s deal that allowed them to renew it without his consent due to his time away from the company at the hands of an injury. Rey is reportedly not happy with the situation as he wishes to return to Mexico. It€™s now being reported that the WWE may be seek to renew their contract with Rey again. Mysterio is still currently sitting at home because of an injured hand. Because of this, the company could potentially enact the same clause next summer, keeping Rey under contract for even longer. Speculation seems to point to another cause for the constant renewal of Mysterio€™s deal. WWE may wish to prevent Rey from leaving and heading to Mexico simply out of spite based on Mysterio€™s handling of the current situation -- i.e. his appearance during AAA€™s Triplemania. Furthermore, even with Rey sitting at home, he is a major benefit to the company through his ever-strong merchandise sales. It will be interesting to see what happens between Rey Mysterio and WWE further down the line, but at this time, the promotion seems to be considering the possibility of keeping the luchador under contract for as long as possible, despite Rey€™s apparent unhappiness. Let us know your thoughts on the current situation between WWE and Rey Mysterio in the comments below.
