4. Daniel Bryan Vs. William Regal - Superstars

We may never have gotten Daniel Bryan vs. Shawn Michaels, but we did get this classic teacher-student clash on an episode of Superstars.

Regal dominates early thanks to a combination of vicious strikes and veteran instinct, but Bryan ultimately chips away at his mentor, targeting the leg specifically. He works the leg incessantly, removing Regal's signature knockout knee strikes from the equation.

By the time Regal staggers to his feet, he's lost so much of his strength that a final volley of uppercuts has no effect. Bryan is ultimately able to stun Regal with a Tajiri-style roundhouse to the temple and apply a LeBell lock; Regal taps instantly.

Perhaps the pain really was that great, but isn't it more poetic to imagine that the submission was more a concession that the student had surpassed the teacher? The post-match, in which Regal shook and then raised the hand of his protégé, would seem to support that reading.
