WWE's Roman Reigns On AEW: "There's No Competition"

"We have the best talent in the world," says The Big Dog.

Given the headway All Elite Wrestling have been making since their inception just six months ago, you wouldn't blame WWE's dyed-in-the-wool superstars if they were just a mite concerned about all the commotion coming out of Jacksonville.

One such superstar whose thick coat is coloured WWE more than most is of course The Big Dog, Roman Reigns. Is he bothered about Cody and co's startup promotion, then? Not one bit, it turns out; he doesn't even reckon they are competition.

The former Universal champion recently spoke with The Sportster about today's wrestling industry, and inevitably, the subject of AEW came up. Reigns brushed off suggestions that Tony Khan's outfit could challenge WWE:

"Competition? No, there’s no competition. WWE, we know exactly what we’re doing. We have the best talent in the world. There’s no comparing, I say that with firm confidence, all the way from the top to the very bottom. .. We are world class all the way through."

At the risk of Rollinsing himself (ie, coming across as a snivelling company man), Roman equivocated his comments, admitting AEW was a positive for the business:

"Is it another option? Sure. For wrestlers around the world and in the locker room, (even WWE’s) AEW is another option and another place to get a cheque. I’m never against optimism but I think you have foolish thoughts if you really think there’s a comparison or actual competition. Just an option, which isn’t a bad thing."

Obviously, it's hard to know if this is what Reigns really feels, or if the figurehead of his organisation is sticking to the carefully scripted spin. After all, you imagine he's had several deep conversations with a certain former Shield buddy about the situation...

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
