WWF: What Does The Future Hold For Kane After The Undertaker Feud?

kane taker The match between The Undertaker and his brother Kane was an entertaining contest at Wrestlemania, with the masked mute proving to be the biggest threat the Deadman had ever faced in a singles contest. The influence of Paul Bearer was apparent, the fire reigned from both wrestler's creepily atmospheric entrances, and we even got to see Kane send the legendary Pete Rose for a home run before the match. But, the question must now be, after The Undertaker was able to vanquish the challenger that has been plaguing him since Bad Blood, where does this leave Kane for the future? Of course the immediate future has been laid down by Bearer, who on the latest edition of RAW would challenge The Undertaker to face Kane again at Unforgiven when the ring will be surrounded by fire. Whether this will prove a successful gimmick is left open, as though it fits Kane's character perfectly, it will be interesting to see if the contraints negatively effect what the two large superstars can do to each other. But eventually this feud between brothers will have to come to an end, and with that could bring about the end of Kane with it. The last time Undertaker was in a feud that bore any semblence of his "personal life" was the battle against the Imposter Undertaker at Summerslam 1994, and as soon as the real Deadman had eliminated this threat, the imposter disappeared from screens for good. Kane, it must be said, is more of a notable competitor than the Imposter Undertaker ever was. Kane already has a number of victories under his belt against the likes of Mankind and Vader, and whilst having a similar moveset to his brother, it is unique enough to forge a reasonably long-lasting character. Incredibly strong, remarkably agile and with a mysterious and intriguing appearance, Kane has been an integral component of this feud, and has not simply been swept along with Undertaker's feud with Paul Bearer. Kane is a strong heel, but there is still a lingering doubt as to how far he can go in the company. The issue with Kane is that his existence is predicated on both Undertaker and Paul Bearer. Without either of these two, his character would never have been brought about. Therefore, any future feud that Kane could potentially be involved with would have to be in some measure linked to his relationship with Undertaker, and eventually they would have to cross paths on a repetitive basis. This could quickly become stale for the audience, and with Undertaker historically transitioning between "supernatural" feuds and chasing the WWF Championship, how long can Kane maintain the attention of the crowd when his brother moves on to a title chase? Would Kane be able to realistically enter the title race alongside his brother? It seems unlikely. Firstly, Kane has been wrestling for less than a year, and his only focus has been Undertaker, and has had no known inclinations towards the championships of the WWF. Furthermore, with the company seemingly moving within a more realistic direction with the increased popularity of Stone Cold Steve Austin, D-Generation X and The Nation of Domination, would a giant red "monster" that can shoot lightning bolts and brings fire from the turnbuckles really fit in with this new model? Surely he would just be another character that the WWF have shed from their numbers in their ratings war with WCW. Undertaker is allowed to do this supernatural actions due to the longevity of his tenure and the rapport that he has developed with the WWF audience in his eight years in the spotlight. Kane does not have the experience or the realtionship. So, can Kane fit into the WWF in the long-term? I would say not. The company have done a good job of having him compete against other superstars besides Undertaker, and ensuring that the feud between the brothers has been compelling television. Kane has proven one of if not the biggest threat that Undertaker has combatted in his long career, but it can't be denied that on the scoresheet between the two the masked giant is yet to get a victory. So far in the ring Kane has been a thorn in the side of Undertaker that the Deadman has taken a pair of metaphorical pruning shears to. How long before Paul Bearer realises that his latest vehicle for punishing the Undertaker is not up for the job, and the next mentally unstable/oversized competitor is his replacement. If Kane is to stand any chance of longevity, he will have to soon get victories over Undertaker and a number of other notable competitors, and hope that this feud can lift him into the title picture and make him have his own individual story. Either that or he ditches Paul Bearer in a short while and the two brothers start to take the tag team division by storm. This could give them both a chance to get spotlight, some championship gold, and a potential future feud not solely predicated on mysterious events of their childhood. Then we could see fire of Kane persist for a while longer than it seems to be heading at the moment.
