Though lead Keri Russell tries her damndest to inject some believability into this supernatural dreck, Dark Skies is a laughably cliched thriller that also struggles to disguise its evidently low budget. Writer-director Scott Stewart delivers firmly on the subterranean expectations set by his previous features Legion and Priest, indulging inane dialogue and ludicrous set-ups that consistently defy logic. Main occurrences are poached shamelessly from vastly superior horror and thriller films, while the actual alien encounters are held back until the very end of the film, less as an attempt to foster suspense and more out of necessity due to the shoestring budget. It might suffice for audiences who've never seen an alien invasion film before, but then, who hasn't? Cheap as chips and utterly charmless except for Keri Russell, this one is dead on arrival.
