10 Worst Movies Of 2013 (So Far)

4. The Host

Few expected much from an adaptation of yet another Stephenie Meyer novel, yet The Host was somehow worse than almost every single one of the Twilight movies, all the more a shame because it wastes the exceptionally talented Saoirse Ronan, who plays the protagonist in this turgid, boring fantasy adventure. It appears that Andrew Niccol may well have lost it for good; the Gattaca director and Truman Show screenwriter shows little sign of his earlier promise, clearly nabbing a paycheque here for what is ostensibly a hollow, braindead film that will appeal to only the most hormonally-charged teenage girls. Is there an interesting enough premise here? Sure, but it's handled in the most bland fashion possible, though unlike the Twilight films, actually bombed at the box office, even failing to make its budget make, much to my delight.
