I'm going to get a lot of "That's not even a twist!" comments, I'm sure. And I think that's the point. It isn't a twist, but it certainly feels like an incredibly strained one. While the reveal doesn't change anything within the picture itself, it does cause you to go back and rewatch the movie looking for "Robin" moments and homages, which is an element of a certain kind of movie twist. And that's really not fair. Because not only is it an incredibly senseless way to do it, but it literally doesn't make sense with context. If his name is Robin, does that mean Bruce Wayne was christened "Batman" at birth? If you're going to commit to the idea, you've got to pick a Robin. I know, I know, "But he's supposed to be a combination of all the Robins!" Well, that's incredibly stupid. Nolan states that he'd never put Robin into the franchise, and then gives a nod to the character by culminating all the Robins together? That's like George Lucas saying he won't make another Star Wars film with annoying characters, and then creating a character that homages the combined efforts of Jar-Jar Binks, Boss Nass, and Anakin Skywalker. It's a one-word fix. When he gives his name, a simple, "Tim," "Dick," or "Jason" is enough for us. Maybe it'll go over the heads of the rest of the audience, but at least it'll make sense.
