There's little doubting that Quentin Tarantino's script for Django Unchained was great; it was pretty much everything we expected and hoped for, but the Best Screenplay category at the Golden Globes always proves a crowded race, because they don't distinguish between Adapted and Original scripts like the Oscars do. Thus, any one of the five nominees could have realistically scooped a win, but it really feels like the HPFA just deferred to Tarantino because he's the most famous and prolific screenwriter in the category, regardless of whether or not he's actually the best. One can't help but think that Chris Terrio's fiendishly intelligent, tense and unexpectedly hilarious script for Argo should have taken pride of place here, especially given that it later went on to win Best Director and Best Drama Film. Will many people be annoyed over this? Probably not, but was it the wrong call? Absolutely.
