Transformers makes $38 million in 24 hours

By Matt Holmes /

Despite screenings debuting on Monday night at 8pm, Transformers still had time to rake in $8.8 million on 3,050 screens on what was the "special screenings" night. The film officially opened on Tuesday where it made an estimated $29.5 million which is a fantastic opening and now makes it the highest grossing Tuesday debut of all time, beating out Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest's $15.7 million taking in 2006. So that puts Transformers at $38 million for just over 24 hours. The movie is well on course to smash that $100 million barrier before the end of the week and is certainly proving to be a real big hit. Is it too ambitious to say it could take $150 million by Monday? source - slash film, fm
