9. Deponia

In Germany, point and click adventure games never stopped being popular, so much so that in 2008 a surprisingly good fan made sequel to return Broken Sword franchise was released. Deponia, and it's sequel Chaos on Deponia, were both released this year by Daedalic Entertianment and with its blend of simply gameplay mechanics and challenging puzzles, which made point and click adventure games popular, have proved to be a very good entries into the genre. You play as Rufus, a young man desperate to leave Deponia, and what follows is a game full of character, vibrancy, and above all else fun. The friendship of Rufus and Wendall was a definite highlight of the first game. Point and click games haven't been wildly popular since Lucas Arts accidentally killed the genre, with the rightly highly rated, but woefully underplayed, "Grim Fandango" but with the return of Broken Sword, a Double Fine Adventure, and a third Deponia game all coming in 2013 the genre is making a mini revival. (In my research I discovered that Deponia did indeed receive a disk release, but I loved it so much that I refuse to take it off the list.)
