10 Trends That Are Killing Video Games
9. Movie-Based Games
Another horrific trend that is extremely popular: the quickly made and poorly put together video game to tie in with a theatrical release. The main goal for these atrocities is money. It has no intention to please or satisfy the gamer. They prey on gullible moviegoers who watch the latest superhero movie and want to experience playing as the main character. They see how awesomely portrayed Captain America was and think to themselves this would make an awesome game. Nope.
The major issue is that they sell for the same amount as most new games. They are promptly torn apart by reviewers but children and uninformed parents suffer the most. This, by all means, doesn't imply all superhero or movie games are terrible. Take, for example, Rocksteady's Batman series. It was well put together but was completely un-reliant on the Batman movies. This ray of hope keeps me going every time I see a copy of Green Lantern: The Game at my local game retailer.
