A man who should go down as nothing less than a true servant, and a truly great player for Liverpool Football Club, Carragher saw his years catch up with him last season. With the absolutely exceptional Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel injury-free and in form, The scouser finally saw his regular place in the team disappear. When he did feature, his lack of pace and clumsiness on the ball were exposed, and Liverpool's defense suffered. From an era where centre backs put in heavy challenges and then smashed the ball as far forward as possible, Carragher struggles to compete with the ball playing centre halves that dominate the modern game. And they are the kind of defenders that Rodgers will favour for his style of football at Anfield. While Carragher will probably appear a few times next season, Liverpool will probably look towards blooding young Sebastian Coates into the team when Agger or Skrtel are absent.
