Man Utd Transfers: 10 Possible Improvements On Has-Beens Rio & Vidic
the Sun, that Sir Alex Ferguson doesn't seem to fancy playing former first choice centre-half pairing Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand might come as a shock for Manchester United fans, but the fact is neither is getting younger, and though Ferdinand is currently being talked about as an England international again, neither is getting any better. Captain Vidic was left out of United's starting line-up for the Champions League draw against Real Madrid on Wednesday, despite playing the full game against Everton the previous Sunday. And Sir Alex Ferguson revealed:
I had my doubts about whether I was doing the right thing or not because he was fantastic against Everton, but I stuck by what weve been doing with him. Three days to my mind was a risk. It would have been the same for Ferdinand. If he had played on the Sunday I would have had my doubts whether to play him on Wednesday. So it looks like Rio and Vidic could well be heading out of the door, or at least out of the first team, as Fergie doesn't have the confidence in their condition anymore. Coupled with his comments about Jonny Evans being a top defender, and needing an extended run in the first team, it definitely seems that the Vidic/Rio partnership is all but done. Does this mean Man Utd need to go out and buy another pair of centre-halves?
10. Adil Rami
Club: Valencia Manchester United have now been linked with the Valencia defender for around a year, with the MailOnline linking the player with a £20million to Old Trafford back in February 2012, so they could well turn their attentions back to him to solve their current situation. If United are indeed keen on limiting the pitch time of Vidic and Ferdinand, the Frenchman, who was part of Lille's French title winning side two years ago would be a great fit for United. He is athletic, strong and quick and would have the experience to slot straight into the side.
