Spurs Transfer News: Gareth Bale To Leave Tottenham For £50M Next Summer?

London Evening Standard. News that the Welshman will remain in North London for at least another 12 months will delight Spurs fans, who are still reeling from the disappointment of losing out to derby rivals Arsenal in the race for a top four spot this season. However, the signing of the new contract will not be the statement of loyalty fans had hoped for, and the player will be allowed to go next summer if the club receive a huge offer for their star player. The tying down of the midfielder to a new contract is viewed as little more than a tactic designed to extort the biggest transfer fee possible for the club, who are resigned to losing the player at some point in the future. A number of leading European sides such as Real Madrid and Manchester United have been linked with the 23-year old recently, but he is going nowhere - for the time being. Spurs are expected to announce the signing of the new, £130,000-a-week deal shortly, but it raises more questions than answers as to his long-term future at the club.
