"They say that friends are the family of the 21st Century.." Anyone remember this line? It still sends a slight tingle down my spine more than a decade after it was first uttered by Simon Pegg back in 2001 during what would prove to be the final season of the far-too-short-lived Spaced. The late-90s sitcom was one of the best ever produced for channel 4 and like a lot of shows mentioned here remains very much a cult classic among fans. The show followed Daisy Steiner (Jessica Stevenson) and Tim Bisley (Simon Pegg) as flat-hunters who conspired to pull the wool over the eyes of landlady Marsha Klein (Julia Deakin) by pretending to be a young "professional couple" (in spite of having only just met) in order to score a cheap place to live. Also living in the flat is the terrific Nick Frost-played Mike Watt, Brian Topp (Mark Heap) and Twist Morgan (Katy Carmichael). Since the show's end back in 2001, there have been various remarks made by former crew and cast members relating to a potential revival of the series and a third overall. However, Simon Pegg tweeted that "We would never do a third series unless we could get the whole cast back together and Aida (Colin) is no longer with us" while in 2007, Nick Frost called the series "dead". Many of the cast members have gone on to bigger and better things since, with Nick Frost going on to co-star with Simon Pegg in hit films Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz while Pegg starred in the recent Star Trek Into Darkness film.
