6. The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe (Story 224, 2011)
I tend to really dislike the Christmas specials. I think that A Christmas Carol from 2010 was one of the worst episodes of Doctor Who Ive ever had to sit through. Other episodes like, The Christmas Invasion and Voyage of the Dammed were also pretty bad. But this little tale, which mixes in elements of C. S. Lewis with World War II and a young mother struggling to raise two children with their father gone (and apparently dead), is very sweet and heartfelt. It managed to be emotional without resorting to glurge, and thats always something that I can appreciate.
