Doctor Who: 7 Great Eleventh Doctor Stories

One thing I€™ll give modern Who great credit for: it€™s really excellent at reaching back to childhood fears and exploiting the hell out of them to scare us. The Weeping Angels, for example, work at least in part because when you€™re a child, you €œknow€ that statues come to life and move around when people aren€™t looking. This is the same, with a young child being menaced by creepy dolls. It€™s very atmospheric and claustrophobic and does an excellent job of reaching into our spines and pulling out the scary images from our youth. I also liked the fact that, aside from the last few seconds, it didn€™t depend on knowing the overall arc from the sixth season. That alone gives us much to recommend for this episode.
