Doctor Who: 7 Great Eleventh Doctor Stories

4. The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon (Story 214, 2011)

It€™s not often I can watch a TV program and notice, immediately, that a particular image is going to become especially iconic. But in this story, the shot of the Apollo astronaut standing in the lake, that€™s an iconic shot. That€™s a shot that begs for a story to be told and, thankfully, the story we get just about lives up to the potential of that shot. Now I€™m not going to lie. The story has troubles and the concept that the Silence have been hanging around on Earth for thousands of years really doesn€™t make a lot of sense. But the Silence themselves are creepy and interesting, and I truly loved Mark Sheppard€™s performance as an FBI agent who really, seriously needs to become a permanent companion.
