Update On WWE's Plans For John Cena At WrestleMania 39
Just who will John Cena be working with come WWE's bumper WrestleMania 39 weekender?
The Wrestling Observer is reporting that John Cena will work a match during night one or night two of WWE's bumper WrestleMania 39 weekender in April 2023.
Currently, Cena's filming schedule is chaotic - he's also set to shoot overseas in February and March, so wouldn't really be available for much build towards 'Mania on Raw or SmackDown during that period. That could colour WWE's thinking, so much so that JC might work an exhibition style one-off just to get him involved.
Dave Meltzer also believes that a bout vs. Austin Theory won't appeal to Triple H the same way it did to former WWE boss Vince McMahon. It was teased online several times, but that was when Theory was McMahon's on-screen pet project every Monday night on Raw.
Times have changed. Austin is reigning United States Champ though, so who knows? Triple H might see Cena challenging for that belt as a fine compromise for everybody involved, especially if it nets Theory a landmark win over someone he's patterned himself after.
Cena will team with Kevin Owens to wrestle Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn in a marquee tag attraction on the 30 December SmackDown. That's the final TV show of WWE's 2022.
