While the undercard wasnt the most gratifying, the two main event matches lived up to their billing and more. The Undertaker/Stone Cold match was almost a classic, but they lacked the chemistry that Taker had with Bret Hart the year before. While 1998 was undoubtedly a good year for the WWE it was difficult. Both Michaels and Hart, who had carried the company on their backs during the mid-nineties, had left and apart from Kane and Mankind, The Undertaker and Stone Cold were the only main eventers left. But that was about to change. In the match before the WWF Championship battle, two guys with huge potential were battling for the Intercontinental Title. The charismatic leader of the Nation of Domination, The Rock, was defending the companies second belt against a founding member of DX, Triple H. The pair had a classic ladder match that showed why they were both destined for the main event.
